Gun culture in india : Gun use by indian - Anonymous Informer

Indian gun culture

Most people in India just think guns as a symbol of power, the thing they don't understand is guns comes with responsibility.
Especially the youth of India thinks gun as a symbol of coolness, but that's not the true government of India allowed civilians to have a gun for their own safety, not for show-off.

Misuse of guns by people

In India, most people with guns don't think twice before pointing a gun on the enemy. They find it powerful to pointing guns in a fight and sometimes in anger, they shoot the enemy and then regret it.
Criminals use guns to do crimes like robbery, murder, frightening their enemy, etc.

According to the 2016 survey, there are 3,369,444 firearm licenses active in India with 9,700,000 firearms registered to them. According to the Small Arms Survey, there are 61,401,000 illegal firearms in India out of approximately 75 million in worldwide circulation.
A maximum of these firearms is made in U.P & BIHAR illegal firearm factories.
There are around 0.3 gun homicides per 100,000 people in India every year. Around 90% of them are committed using illegal guns.

Nowadays even minors of India have illegal guns. According to anonymous sources, Gangs of Delhi provide gun (commonly known as Katta) in just 5000 Rs. And even police know about it but gangs keep bribing police.

According to the 2014 report, nearly 85% of the people killed by guns are fatally shot by unlicensed arms in the country in 2014. Out of a total of 3,655 deaths that occurred due to gunshots, as many as 3,115 happened because of illegal arms.
In India, if anybody found having a gun without a license he gets a punishment of 14 years in prison. Under the present law, the offense invites imprisonment of not less than 7 years but may extend to life imprisonment -- mostly up to 14 years.

Why people buy illegal guns?

It's because of huge availability of illegal weapons in India, its so easy to buy illegal weapons, people don't buy it from the government because of high cost, strict policies against the use of weapon and government only allow to buy a gun with the proper paperwork, a reason to buy, they just don't give it to everyone.
So people just illegally buy it.

What influence people to have a gun?

The youth of India thinks that keeping gun is cool, it shows power, they don't understand its responsibility, they are brainwashed because of bad influence by Bollywood in which it is shown that carrying a gun is cool, macho thing, they don't show that carrying a gun is not an easy peasy thing, you have to be responsible for your action.

Another big reason of promoting gun culture in India is singers of India, the youth of India also got influenced by them, they show that it's macho to have a gun, they even use a gun in the video of their own song. They make songs on guns, that how cool it is to have a gun.
Even some singers have cases on them for promoting gun culture in India.

It's not that all movies, tv shows, and singers are bad, but some of them are.

 What is the solution?

  • The government has to close illegal firearms factories.
  • People have to boycott those movies, tv shows, and singers who promote gun culture.
  • People need to be educated on the responsibility of keeping firearms.
